Daisy's Bio

Hello, I am Daisy Rodriguez. I am currently enrolled at Phoenix College, working on an Associates in Science. I hope to become an Arizona State University student very soon to finish obtaining my bachelors in Biology. Little bit about me I was born in the year 1995 and have lived in Arizona my whole life. I attended two different High Schools being Vicki A. Romero High School and Camelback High School, which is where I ended up graduating from. Growing up I always knew I wanted to do something science related, I remember wanting to be an astronomer, a marine biologist, a geologist, and overall scientist. These past semester I was finally fortunate to be allowed to live out my dream of being a "scientist". Starting in summer 2015 to spring 2016 I began working with Dr. Robin Cotter and Cori Leonetti in a project that consisted of screening water and biofilm samples for the detection of a bacteria called Legionella pneumophila. This project was founded through WAESO ( Western Alliance to Expand Student Opportunities) and this is how I was allowed to participate. I am pleased to say that after struggling I finally was allowed to be a part of S-Stem! Through S-Stem I plan to continue with the screening of water and biofilms but instead of just concentrating on looking for Legionella we will be looking at testing for other Pseudomonas that can also be potentially pathogenic. I am looking forward to another semester of research as well as meeting and working with other S-Stem students.
